Blind Date with a Book

Every year our volunteers wrap books in kraft paper and hand-draw the covers. No title. No author. Just three hints about what's inside — and you don't find out until you unwrap it.

A hand-drawn wrapped book showing a monkey wearing a crown, with hints about a Printz Award-winning graphic novel. A hand-drawn wrapped book showing a butterfly and a rose, with hints about a poetry collection. A hand-drawn wrapped book showing flowers in a vase, with hints about a Pulitzer Prize winner.

Every cover is drawn by hand by a student volunteer. They go fast — come early.

Worth a Look

Theme Tables

Beyond the 59 categories, our volunteers build displays that change every year — BookTok, Read It Before the Movie, and the Banned Books table, which has become one of the most talked-about corners of the sale.

A theme table with a Read It Before The Movie sign, next to a Book Tok display. A large banner reading Banned Books hanging above a display table of frequently challenged titles.
Students

Earn SSL Hours

Montgomery County students can earn Student Service Learning hours at every drop-off, sort day, set-up shift, and sale day — and volunteers get to take home a book of their choosing.

No experience needed. Bring a friend — most people do.
